Sync your Google Calendar with Microsoft OutlookIf you're using both Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar and find yourself manually updating one or both, say hello to Google Calendar Sync. It automatically syncs your schedule between Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar, and you determine the direction of information flow as well as the sync frequency. |
Get started on your team's Google Site
We've added a new application to the Google Apps product suite. Google Sites makes creating a team web site as easy as editing a document. You can quickly gather a variety of information in one place -- including videos, calendars, presentations, attachments, and text -- and easily share it for viewing or editing with a small group, your entire organization, or the world.
Take a look at this project site to see how you might use Google Sites:
Synchronize your calendar with your BlackBerry® smartphone
You can already access your calendar from your phone's internet browser, but if you use a BlackBerry®, you have a new option for taking your calendar on the go. With Google Sync for mobile, your handheld's calendar application stays synchronized with your Google Apps calendar. Appointments added or changed online will be reflected on your BlackBerry®, and changes you make on your BlackBerry® will show up in Google Calendar. Just go to http://m.google.com/sync from your BlackBerry® browser to download and install the Google Sync for mobile application. The application is free from Google, but carrier charges may apply.
IMAP for Gmail, free for all devices and platforms
Use Gmail at work, in your car, or just about anywhere on any device, and actions you take will be automatically synced with your Gmail account on the web.
View Google Docs on your mobile phone
Point your phone's web browser to http://docs.google.com/a/[your_domain.com]/m to view your documents on the go. Review your action items from yesterday's meeting or check the sales figures you need to reference in your upcoming client call.

25 GB of email storage per account with Premier Edition
Just in case 10 GB of storage per user wasn't already enough, we've bumped up the storage quota on Premier Edition so users have even more room to keep messages with big attachments and long email conversations with valuable information. Premier Edition now comes with a virtually unlimited 25 GB per user.
Shared address book
The shared address book makes it even easier to get in touch with everyone in your organization without going to a separate list or company directory. When composing a new email, or sharing a document, you now have the option to search through all the users on your domain, even if they aren't in your personal contact list. Need to send a note to Paula S in Sales, but aren't sure of her email address? As long as she has a Google Apps account on your organization's domain, all you have to do is type in the first few letters, "Pau ...", and your address book will help with the rest.
If your administrator has activated this feature for your domain, you will be able to access the shared address book from Gmail while composing a new message, or from Google Docs on the "Share" tab. Click the "choose from contacts" link and a smaller window will appear.
Chat with colleagues from within your start page
Now you can chat with colleagues and friends from right within your Google Apps start page. The new Google Talk gadget also allows for multi-person chat, so you can schedule a meeting or get input from multiple people without switching back and forth between chat tabs. If your administrator has activated the start page, add the gadget by clicking on the "Add stuff" link on the top left corner of your homepage, open the 'Google Apps' category of gadgets, and click 'add it now.'
Search among thousands of new start page gadgets
The start page is a central place to preview and access your calendar and inbox, find company information, and search the web. Now you have access to even more options to customize your start page thanks to the new start page directory, which features thousands of Google Apps gadgets.
Your administrator must have activated the start page service in order for you to use these new gadgets. To see if the start page is activated on your domain, visit: http://partnerpage.google.com/[your-domain.com]. Remember to replace [your-domain.com] with your actual domain name!
Google Calendar gallery
Many organizations and individuals choose to share their calendars publicly through Google Calendar. Now Google Calendar users can access these calendars through an easy-to-browse gallery. You can find all sorts of interesting public calendars that you can overlay on top of your school or business calendar, so you can keep track of your favorite basketball team's schedule, know when your favorite TV show is a repeat, or follow your favorite band's concert tour. To see the gallery, click the 'Add' button at the top of your list of calendars and choose 'Add a public calendar'.
View PowerPoint presentations as slideshows
Now you can open PowerPoint attachments as slideshows without having to download anything. Just click 'View as slideshow' next to the .ppt attachment you want to preview. Since you can open .doc and .xls attachments with Google Docs and Spreadsheets too, there's no need to leave your web browser to view email attachments.
Increased attachment size limit — 20 MB! Now you can start sharing more of those large presentations and files as attachments. We've doubled the allowable attachment size to 20 MB to make your Gmail space even more useful.
Google Docs
New! Now you can create and share presentations with Google Docs.
Google Docs is a web-based program for word-processing, spreadsheets and presentations that helps people in your organization collaborate on files and update documents from any internet-connected computer. If your administrator has activated this service, you can get started right away by creating a new document or by uploading a file from your computer. Like your other Google Apps services, Google Docs is integrated with your Gmail contacts list so it's easy to invite people to view or edit your files.
Share an online document with others to access a single copy of the file from different computers without having to manage multiple versions of the same attachment. When you're ready, you can publish your document to an internet address that can be accessed by your entire organization. If you need to make a change, you can edit and republish once you're ready.
Check to see if your administrator has activated this service by going to http://docs.google.com/a/[your-domain.com]. Remember to replace [your-domain.com] with your actual domain name!

The Start PageIf your administrator has activated this service, you now have a central place to find important information, preview and access your inbox and calendar, and search the web. Your administrator sets up the initial layout and content for this page, but you're able to customize it as you can with the iGoogle.

New features for administrators
Application Hosting
Organizations use a variety of applications specific to their market, if not totally unique to their specific needs. With the preview of the Google App Engine we're providing a 'test drive' of a new development platform. Google App Engine will allow organizations to build their own apps, restricted to just their users, integrated with the admin console, served from custom URLs at their domain, and hosted on Google's infrastructure. Policy management and message discovery by Postini
New! With our recent acquisition of Postini, we're also putting more security and compliance controls into the hands of administrators. We're pleased to announce that policy management and message discovery by Postini are now available at no additional charge within Premier Edition. Premier Edition administrators can activate these new features from the Google Apps control panel.
Policy management lets administrators implement rules for how messages are handled based on the sender, recipient, attachments or content of the message:
- Messages can be selectively tracked, routed for review or blocked according to company or regulatory compliance guidelines. For example, emails with specific keywords can be prevented from being sent to external recipients, or groups of users can be entirely prevented from sending external email.
- Configurable spam and virus filtering lets organizations add custom filtering rules, complementing the spam and virus protection already included in Gmail.
Message discovery allows you to search for mail across your whole domain and recover deleted emails on a 90-day rolling basis, adding peace of mind that important information is safe with Google Apps, even in the case of accidental deletion by your users.
To learn more about policy management and message discovery, visit our Help Center. We're also offering webinars about these features from Postini so you can have your questions answered by product experts. Sign up now for a webinar
In addition to these features from Postini now included with Premier Edition, Google Apps administrators can leverage Postini's other offerings to secure all of their electronic communications -- email, instant messaging and the web. Postini solutions can also make it easy to meet their archiving and encryption needs. Visit the Postini website to learn more.
Email routing options
Email routing allows organizations using Premier or Education Edition to run Google Apps alongside another email solution. This means administrators can easily run a pilot program of Google Apps without turning off the existing email system, migrate just a subset of users to Google Apps, or segregate groups of users with special needs onto a separate email solution. Domain registrationBefore, our service was BYOD (Bring Your Own Domain). Now you have the option of registering a domain on the spot through one of our partners. The process is easy; just choose your custom domain name, and pay with Google Checkout. Registration costs $10 per year including private domain registration to help you avoid spam. Your new domain will be pre-configured to work with Google Apps. |
The Start Page
The start page lets you easily create a unique, dynamic place for your users to find relevant, essential information, preview and access their inboxes and calendars, and search the web. You customize the layout, header information and color scheme, as well as the page's default content, which can include many different iGoogle gadgets, your own content and links, and RSS feeds. After your users log in, they can further customize the start page. You can create and publish a start page from the Google Apps for Your Domain control panel.
Support for new languages
We just added a whole batch of new languages to the administrative control panel, so if English isn't your native tongue, try Google Apps in any of these other languages: Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish or UK English.
If you'd like to change your languages preferences, log into the control panel and click 'Domain Settings' to edit advanced settings.
Custom URLs for your domain's Google-powered apps
Now you can set up simple URLs for your domain's Google services. For example, your users can access their email accounts at a URL like mail.your-domain.com. Log in to the control panel to edit the links for your services.

Support for multiple domains
If your business or organization has other domain names in addition to your primary domain, you can now associate all of your domains together within Google Apps. This way, when emails and calendar event invitations are sent to accounts on one of your secondary domain names, the messages and invitations will be routed to the right accounts at your primary domain.
